"content": "Here's a holiday present!<br />Sick Fox is releasing the entirety of one of the side-stories you will find in Blade Devil Volume 1. That's a full 24 pages!<br />This was interesting for me to read, because it's the only Blade Devil story (so far) that exclusively features characters that I had no hand in helping to create! Ashyara doesn't appear here... but hopefully all the characters will eventually meet up in a mega-crossover event 😉<br />This is only 1/3rd of a story which will be featured in Sick Fox's next book. In particular, western comics (outside of a few Scholastic books for VERY young kids) are having problems reaching younger audiences. Since I used to be a boy, let's focus on that.<br /><br />What do boys want to see in their comics? Lots of cool escapist action, either a badass alpha male main character or a boy around our age on some adventure doing things we WISH we could do, and... cute/sexy girls. See, this last one in particular is where the west trips itself up.<br /><br />What do teenage boys find attractive? Teenage girls of course. "content": "So about those \"instant win\" tactics....<br /><br />People in general have a habit of overusing tactics that are super effective, instead of saving them and using them selectively. On the left we know exactly how this goes, once they figured out they could instantly win an argument by pointing at their opponent and screaming \"Nazi, Racist, Misogynist, Bigot!\" that's all they ever do now. They don't even try to talk anymore, just shout their \"instant-win\" words.<br /><br />The right isn't exactly innocent here either... They are notorious for trying to use shame to get MGTOW and herbivore men to bend the knee too, because in the past this tactic worked, but it no longer does. I for one have said before shame only works if the person being shamed actually cares about the opinion of the person doing the shaming. Not to mention they tend to throw around the \"pedophile\" word at everyone who disagrees with them. Losing an argument? Just call the other person a pedophile and watch as the whole argument has shifted away from what you were losing at, to them defending themselves against that accusation!<br /><br />But imagine if these culture wars were REAL wars. Imagine one army found an \"instant-win\" tactic, and used it every single encounter, no matter how small. It wouldn't take long for the other army to predict EXACTLY what their enemy is going to do, and be ready for a counter every time.<br /><br />We're slowly coming upon that in the culture war. These \"instant-win\" words have lost a lot of their power, and are increasingly viewed as a joke. This happened already with the right and their shaming tactics, most of the targets of their attempted shaming just shrug and laugh it off and go back to ignoring them. And that's the ultimate fate of the ismphobia accusations as well.<br /><br />Them overusing this just speeds up the pendulum's swing in the other direction. And man will it be hilarious watching these losers squirm as their \"instant-win\" tactics no longer work, and they have nothing else to try. Much like the right and their shaming...",

As long as they're still in the \"hate\" stage, they can be recovered. But once they let go of the hate and apathy kicks in.... Game Over. They don't care anymore. Nothing you can do will bring them back.<br /><br />This is why it's so important for mistakes to be corrected QUICKLY. But what happens when instead of correcting a mistake, the corpo/creator in question doubles down, for YEARS? What happens when they are only begrudgingly brought to correct a mistake when faced with certain bankruptcy?<br /><br />Some say it's important from a \"culture war\" standpoint to score this victory and give them another chance. I'd agree, as long as the mistake is QUICKLY corrected. But in the case of something like Star Wars, where they've been doubling down for a decade? Nah, let it die. It's not a \"loss\" for us to just let it fail now, it's not a \"win\" for the other side, it's a win for US.<br /><br />I believe it's a lot more valuable to let corpos/creators that are too far gone go bankrupt, and use that as a warning to all others. \"This is what happens when you side with a certain group of people and stab your own fans in the back.\" That IMO is the most important and powerful victory we can achieve.<br /><br />I for one have no interest in saving an IP I've already long since given up on. I've found other, better things, that haven't betrayed my trust. Don't have the time or money to waste on some corporate lowest common denominator focus group slop. Especially since I know the second they feel comfortable again, they'll just sink another knife in my back.<br /><br />Be wary of anything that has big corporations, investors, shareholders, etc. behind it. It doesn't just exist to make money, but to MAXIMIZE money made. The second they believe they can make even 1% more money by throwing you under the bus to appeal to some other audience, they'll do so in a heartbeat.<br /><br />Instead, consider supporting independent creators, that's the only place left where passion isn't completely crushed by bureaucracy.",

The contents of that book have already been paid for by magazine sales in Japan, and the work is already finished. Think about what an awesome position this puts the publishers in.... They already paid the mangaka, all their assistants, everyone else involved in the production of the manga, and when they get to the point of selling the compiled volumes it's all extra money.<br /><br />Which is one of the main reasons they can sell the books as cheaply as they do. These things would be a lot more expensive if they had to pay everyone from only the compiled volume sales. Because of this, unless the business model for making manga changes, it's pretty much impossible for the west to infect the source in Japan. If the JAPANESE magazine buyers don't like a manga, it quickly gets canceled. Do you see weekly manga magazines becoming a thing in the west anytime soon? I sure don't!<br /><br />This also means that it's HIGHLY unlikely the west can ever compete on quantity/price when it comes to manga. One possible way to MAYBE replicate this would be to monetize a web comic and then release compiled volumes of that for relatively cheap, since at that point your only major expenses would be printing and fulfillment. That will work for a few people, but it's impossible for most.<br /><br />That's why I say we should focus on doing what manga can't/won't. Europe probably has the best model, yearly high quality releases in full color. Trying to compete with manga on speed and price is a losing proposition, so instead I'm all about creating great manga style art in full color!",

I've not only pulled all-nighters, but flew out all the way across the country for a week with just a day's notice to fix a major issue, without (too much) complaining. "content": "Is it worth rebuilding bridges with the people who burn them once they feel they have no more use for you?<br /><br />I'd say no. Actually I find it kind of funny when a parasite forgets it needs its host to survive, burns the bridge with its host, and then cries when the host doesn't \"forgive and forget\" and let the parasite re-attach itself. If someone burns a bridge with you when they feel they have the power, you have no reason to rebuild it after they realize they needed you way more than you \"needed\" them.<br /><br />And \"petty grievances\" aside, let's look at this logically. Why would you give someone who stabbed you in the back a second chance, when the world is full of much better people who've never wronged you? With the VERY rare exception of some savant with a super rare set of skills (though these people generally have no problems finding other work/relationships, they would have no need to go back to you) or someone whose distinct style has become a big part of a project, we can ALL be replaced.<br /><br />Look at artists for example. As the legacy industries die, we'll be seeing the same people who labeled us Nazis (among other horrible things) suddenly become open to working with us. But why would we want to work with them? For every big name mainstream artist, there are hundreds of artists who are just as good as (or often BETTER) than them, but they've never been given a chance. There are artists open to commissions on Pixiv that are way better than most of the \"greats\" in the mainstream, but since competition is so fierce they've never gotten the chance to break out. Why not work with one of them instead? Why give work to someone who stabbed you in the back and disavowed you, when there are much better artists you can work with instead?<br /><br />Same thing with game developers! Most \"professional\" game developers these days (at least the vocal ones) are extremist political ideologues that make it clear the type of people they won't work with. You bet this attitude will change once their safe space collapses around them. And when that happens, why would we work with them when there are much better people out there? For every actually good developer in the mainstream, there are hundreds of modders and coders working on passion projects that are way better. Why give horrible backstabbers a second chance, when there are WAY better options out there?<br /><br />The only time I would even consider giving any of these cretins another chance is if they are literally the only ones with the skills to do what I need (and again, if that were true, they'd have no need to come to me for work, they'd have no problems finding it elsewhere) or if it was someone I already worked with in the past and our common projects could not continue without both of us on them.<br /><br />Those exceptions aside, leave the mainstream industries and the cretins inhabiting them behind. There are much more talented people OUTSIDE of these industries who would like a chance. Some of them might be a bit rough, but if you put the effort in and give them a chance they'll develop and become WAY better than these horrible people who hate your guts anyway.<br /><br />There's no point in rebuilding bridges with horrible parasites. So avoid the handlers (block the known bad actors pre-emptively), and block the useful idiots on a case by case basis.<br /><br />What does that lead to? Well, eventually the useful idiots get antsy. They get hungry. A few minutes without being in some outrage mob, and they'll have an uncontrollable urge to show people how \"good\" they are.
