The intent wouldn’t be a complete neutralization of Executive authority, but a limitation to only essential and emergency direction and decisions to be made during the period between the transfer of powers.<br /><br />When an exiting President retains the same levels of authority and power during this transition period, it seems unnecessarily vulnerable to harmful actions. Aside from the potential of cognitive-compromised behavior, there’s also the potential of vindictive declarations and actions that serve no other purpose than to hamper the immediate effectiveness of the incoming administration.<br /><br />In addition to such obvious types of limitations of power, it may be worthwhile to include limitations on pardons. Not to actually limit the power or Constitutional scope of Presidential pardons, but restrictions on timing to force such decisions and declarations to being made before the election itself. If the need and/or justification of any pardon bodes poorly with the voting populace, it seems better served to have those actions occur before voting decisions are made. It would also avoid possibly vindictive, frivolous, or even lawfully questionable pardons from overwhelming any new administration coming in. My honest and sincere thanks go out for the simple fact that these professions are the few that will actually make a real impact on the mindless chaos that free-thinkers and free-willed citizens are being forced and coerced to be part of. The constant reference to their own precedencies should pose considerable hesitation from anyone that can still ask the simplest of questions that we were all taught in our earliest and most formative years - \"Why?\"<br /><br />Why have we been lead to believe that our personal and civil liberties are suddenly something that can be shunned or dismissed - even if promised as being only for the time-being - under the guise of \"the greater good\"? Why have our elected officials been allowed to assert and effectively press for changes in the very meaning of historically meaningful words, such as \"gender\", \"protest\", \"racist\", and \"pandemic\", to name just a few? Why have we permitted any infringement by our partners, statespeople, and employers to pry into our personal (and lawfully protected) decisions, choices, associations, and preferences? Why are we allowing the viewpoints and beliefs of a boisterous minority to dictate broad policy and direction?<br /><br />The more I see something blatantly illegal and unconstitutional taking place, the more I hear references to its legitimacy because of something else that is also taking place - even if that reference is also illegal or unconstitutional. Citing any validity for an action that is based on fiction, illegality, or counter to our own Constitution is still just as invalid as the reference material or source itself. The car isn't running, the windows are up, the doors are locked, and only the radio is playing, tuned to a trusted news station. As you scan the surroundings and the horizon in front of you, the broadcast repeatedly drones on about the horrendous and ghastly pandemic that has befallen us all. As you hear alarming accounts of the numbers and hordes of citizens that have succumbed to the unseen threat, you feverishly switch the station to another trusted news source, and then another and another, only to find the same ghoulish accounts repeated almost verbatim.<br /><br />Puzzled, you attempt to focus your eyes outward, toward the streets and buildings, agonizing to see past the fog that has encompassed the visor in your suit from simply breathing, elevated from the panic that the repeated newscasts have instilled within you. As the broadcasts do their part to convey a dark and dismal world outside of your car, you start to make out the outlines of others and, eventually, you come to realize that some of them are your neighbors, friends, and family. Vast numbers of people are outside your protective shell, all going about their business as if everything was normal.<br /><br />The radio continues to perpetuate the grizzly narrative that any interaction with those that are unprotected will bring assured death, if not for you then possibly someone else that you love that trusts you to protect them against the invisible aggressor that can be carried from person to person, entirely unknown and unchecked without proper equipment. You struggle with the conflict between what you are witnessing and what your ears are processing. Everything outside appears to be fine -- the sun is shining brightly, the trees and plants are flourishing, birds are chirping, and the people are smiling and unaware of anything life-threatening; at least no more life-threatening than any other day before this one.<br /><br />As the news continues its assault on your senses, one of your friends knocks on the car's window at your side. As you stare back at them in silent and horrible fear, your friend encourages you to join them outside as they insist that you'll be fine. They explain that the fatalities have been exaggerated and blown out of perspective proportion, that the local hospital is not overrun, and that the threat is far lower than anything being reported. As a gesture of affirmation, your friend inhales deeply, exhales, and then smiles back at you, waving to join them as they sway their arms to display all of the others that are casually going about their lives as if no real threat exists at all.<br /><br />And now, you're left with a simple decision -- believe your friend and everything that your eyes, sensibility, and capability for logic and reason are telling you, or continue to listen to the abysmal narrative and allow it to feed your fear and keep you confined, crippled, and alone.<br /><br />Which choice would you make?
