Amazing what effect your team doing well can have on your overall enjoyment of a sport. And now here comes the most fun part of all: the Playoffs! And since I've actually been following the game a lot more this year, I can actually offer more analysis than just explaining the esoteric reasons why I like or dislike certain teams (granted, my analysis is pretty much all just gut feelings).

Kansas City Royals - As much fun as it's been watching my team finally put it together, I don't expect them to get too far this time around. This was always going to be a learning year for the Royals come playoff time seeing as how they're only one year removed from a 106-loss season, and they haven't been to the playoffs since they won it all in 2015. But it's especially so now since their offense just hasn't been the same since Vinnie Pasquantino got injured, and I just don't see how they're going to make a deep run unless their pitching keeps performing as well as they have been recently and Bobby Witt Jr. regains his post all-star break form. Then again, just getting into the playoffs is enough for a team to go on a hot streak and win it all, as us Royals fans found out 10 years ago (even if it took another year to actually finish the job). Regardless of what happens, I'm so excited to see how they build on this success for 2025.

Baltimore Orioles - They had the excuse of being young and inexperienced last year when they got swept in the ALDS by a team of destiny in the Rangers, but it's now time for the Orioles' talented core to start proving themselves. Will that happen again with how poorly their September has gone? Probably not, but they will definitely still have a few more years with their core to get something done. I've included them in the \"Will Root For\" tier because I'd love for them to see some success after years of losing, but we'll have to see if that changes after their series with the Royals.

San Diego Padres - Seems like every year for the Padres is World Series or bust nowadays, but this year seems especially important because they might actually have a shot at it. They've been pretty hot for most of the season and probably would be leading their division if not for playing in the same division as the Dodgers. And as much as I'd hate for any city in California to experience anything good, it's always fun to see a city win its first title.

Detroit Tigers - Well, this is quite the welcome surprise. Who would've figured the Tigers would make the playoffs just a month ago? Honestly, good for them. They've been stuck in a perpetual rebuild almost as long as the Royals have, so it's nice to see them actually finding some success for once (despite them being a division rival). And if their hot streak to end the season carries over into the playoffs? They might actually have a legitimate shot at winning it all.

Atlanta Braves - They're the team that I probably know the least about (despite them being the Royals' last opponent in the regular season), except that they're pretty decent even though they had a slow finish to the year. But as always, I'll still root for them even if just a little bit since they were my grandfather's favorite team (still miss talking baseball with you, Granddad).

Milwaukee Brewers - I honestly didn't expect them to make it back with all the turnover their team has experienced over the years, especially with losing their manager last year, but I guess the Brewers really are just that good... in the regular season that is. I still have fond memories of their 2018 run, but they've never even come close to replicating it in the years since - they've only won one playoff game since then! Thus, I've moved them down to the \"Don't Care\" tier because the disappointment is starting to add up for me. This year's team may be good, but I can't see any reason to believe that the result will be any different this year.

Philadelphia Phillies - It's hard to gauge where the Phillies are this year. On one hand, they're probably itching to prove last year was a fluke loss to a Cinderella team and to win a title before their current core gets too old. On the other hand, they just don't seem as hot as they were last year, let alone in 2022. There's not much to dislike about the team itself, but they're still going in \"Don't Care\" because their fans still have a lot to dislike about them.

Cleveland Indians (no I'm still not calling them the G****ians) - You can pretty much repeat everything I said about the Brewers here: mounting disappointments, lack of any perceivable x-factor, and the feeling that they blew their best shot over half a decade ago. Except add in the fact that they're a division rival, hence the slightly lower rating.

New York Mets - The other team I don't really know too well, except apparently their slow start to the season was reversed by adopting Grimace as their secondary mascot or something? It's not quite as powerful as a rally song, but I suppose whatever works. Nevertheless, they're still a team from New York, albeit not *that* New York team, so I still can't muster too much favor for them.

Los Angeles Dodgers - I have a feeling all those weeb fans they earned at Hololive Night will get a rude awakening to the reality of October Dodger choking this October. Will all the high-end talent in the world be able to win them a single playoff game this year? Probably, seeing as how half of their staff was injured last year, but never put it past Dave Roberts' overmanaging prowess.

New York Yankees - Do I really need to try to come up with a new way to say \"Yankees suck\" this year? No? Good. I must say though, I'm quite enjoying this era we're in where teams like the Yankees and Dodgers are earning reputations for spending increasingly large gobs of money only to lose in embarrassing fashion early in the playoffs. Let's hope this year is another extension of it.

Houston Astros - Never thought I'd see the day when I'd hate another team more than the Yankees. Look, I get that most of the core that cheated their way to a title in 2017 is gone now. But the fact that that they still used it to jumpstart their stretch of dominance is still inexcusable and I'm not going to let it go until they're forced to tear it all down and rebuild... which they just had to cocktease us with at the beginning of the year only to revert to their normal selves again. That alone was enough to produce enough extra salt out of me to rank them below the Yankees. Let's hope the Tigers keep up their hot streak just long enough to knock them out in the Wild Card round this time.

And finally, time for my crapshoot World Series matchup prediction. Seeing as how previous years have favored teams that have been hot prior to the playoffs, I'll go with Tigers vs Padres. A 1984 World Series rematch would be really fun to see.

Let's get to playing some ball, boys!", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1195496548511784971/followers" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1687893259268919297", "published": "2024-10-01T16:45:12+00:00", "attachment": [ { "type": "Document", "url": "https://cdn.minds.com/fs/v1/thumbnail/1687890570921381903/xlarge/", "mediaType": "image/jpeg", "height": 806, "width": 1376 } ], "source": { "content": "2024 MLB Postseason Predictions\nSo I finally got back into watching baseball this year, and man, I had forgotten how much fun it can be.
