Fan base. Alienating and losing your actual home town fans, will do nothing but harm your brand. The Real Madrid President states that football is no longer fun and kids are aligned more to players than teams. Not only do I think this is false, I think that many supporters outside of the home town support these teams because of their success and in turn creating a constant correlation between: success - fan base - growth and that were one to be damaged it would affect the other. Example, many Nigerians that I know are big fans of Arsenal. Why? Because of Thierry Henry and Ian Wright. Because they were incredibly successful in the early 2000s and because they are a popular club. None of that, is for loyalty. They hold no true affinity to the club. The titles they won are long past, the players they admire have retired and they are hardly successful anymore. So a question I'm keen to find out is how much did the Arsenal fan base grow in a country such as Nigeria from 1990-2005 and then from 2005-2021. I'd argue that it is less in the latter. So since these foreign fans do not care who they support but are likely to follow others, would they not just change teams?

Secondly, is the players. The call by UEFA and FIFA to ban all players who take part in this league to be banned from international competition is the correct thing to do. What player doesn't want to play for his country? What player doesn't want to lift the World Cup? The vitriol and hatred towards them would be so much internationally that these individuals would hurt their own brand. What benefit is it to them when their skills decline? The teams have guaranteed places, but what of the players? Also since these footballers contract conditions would have changed so much, are their contracts not null and void were this to happen?

Finally, the clubs and the government. To me, this is the biggest threat of them all. It seems to be being ignored as the least effective in stopping this. The Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden along with Boris' support yesterday not only condemned the action, but has raced forward a review led by Tracy Crouch into football, that will be fan led and seek to address issues such as unsustainability in the finance of football, ownership of clubs and better fan and cultural status' to fend off against attacks by owners. He has threatened to remove all government support for these clubs and they will do whatever they have to, were the FAs to fail.

In short, what he has threatened is to make clubs pay for their own policing and even go as far as barring visas for foreign players. This final threat will be the nail in the coffin. We are no longer bound to EU immigration rules and we can just say no. Were this to be acted upon and shown as a serious threat the Super League is simply not possible. Furthermore, there is nothing that could stop the UK government from banning those foreign clubs from even entering the country.

The media seem obsessed with the long term damage to the premier league... 'Then destroy these clubs in the short term and make sure no owners try to do this again'.

I will end with this. So again what right do they have to call themselves founders of European football?

We were relegated down to the Fourth Division in the 1980s, where we'd take 50,000 fans to amateur matches.
