Anger that is dramatised, disproportionate to what has happened and/or prolonged (lasting for more than mere seconds) is a sure sign that what’s really upsetting the person is something else that has been restimulated.<br /><br />You probably know someone who ‘flies off the handle’ at the slightest thing, someone who you have to be careful around because you never know when they’re going to ‘blow up’, or someone who has a permanently angry attitude.<br /><br />This chronic or inappropriate anger has its root in things from the past that haven’t been resolved or healed – potentially hundreds of unresolved/unhealed things that have accumulated over a lifetime. These things acquire a power, a mass, and they behave like landmines that explode whenever we experience something that (usually unconsciously) reminds us of them in some way.<br /><br />What can be done about this? We maintain an internal record of the ways in which they’ve misbehaved, wronged us, hurt us, underappreciated us, misunderstood us or let us down.<br /><br />Each time we’re not treated how we think we deserve to be treated, we make a mental record of it, like keeping track of a debt the other person owes us.<br /><br />Over time these accounts accumulate and create an internal picture of the other person, which shapes who they are for us, how we relate to them and how they relate to us.<br /><br />When we ‘close our account’ with someone, we ‘write off the debt’ that we told ourselves they owe us.
