"content": "One might say that I grew up somewhat outside of the 'mainstream narrative' of health. My parents used plant medicine throughout my childhood. We grew a lot of our own food in our own garden. Nutrition and exercise and time spent outside were common experiences and conversations. In fact, I didn't eat at McDonald's until I was an adult. I grew up understanding that my health is my responsibility - and that wellbeing takes time and daily effort. I understood as a young person that what I put in and on my body will impact how it feels. Within that, yes, we ate the occasional cookie and chocolate bar. Went out for pizza for every birthday. While I've enjoyed 'good health' most of my life, I have also had times where it was clear the pasta and gluten was harming my body. So occasionally I would cut those things out for a time. But it wasn't until I started on my journey to becoming an Ayurvedic Health Practitioner that I realized that many of the world (myself included) don't know what it feels like to be really healthy. We are so used to feeling run down on our diet of pasta and pizza, fast food and fast media, that we don't even know what true and whole being health feels like. And that is truly sad. I am lucky that my parents taught me that my own health is my own responsibility, and true Health doesn't come from a band-aid, a pill or an injection. True wellbeing is my own personal responsibility and comes from conscious decisions, habits and nutritive choices each day. Not having that basic understanding is clearly a real setback in life.",
