But of a poor marriage few accounts ever reach the future which report any worthwhile Truth,” Marsippius replied.<br /><br />She nodded knowingly.<br /><br />“I have no doubt your marriage is both a good and a happy one. I ask merely, ‘is it over?’ Will you ever be able to return to it?” Luthemia asked.<br /><br />Marsippius shook his head grimly. <br /><br />“I know not.”<br /><br />Luthemia bowed her head as if in contemplation. Then she looked again into the Roman’s dark eyes.<br /><br />“Through no fault of your own.”<br /><br />He sighed, then took her hand.<br /><br />“Do not think Luthemia that I have not come to love you. I do love you. I desire you. I yearn for you, as I suspect you yearn for me. I may even love you equal to my wife. None of that is in doubt, or untrue. And whether we shall ever return home again or ever again see our own world, that is indeed in doubt. Through no fault of your own.<br /><br />And yet my wife is my Penelope. As long as I exist and any hope remains to return to her then I must try. And so I cannot allow myself to love you as I do her. I can only love you as if you were a woman I might have wed, in another time, in another life, in another world.”<br /><br />Then he dropped her hand and it fell back to her side, and she bowed her head once more, and whispered,<br /><br />“I do love you, though the love of a man is entirely new to me. I do desire you. I do yearn for you. And yet I also think that I might love you less if you were any less the man you just revealed to me.”<br /><br />Then he took her in his arms and held her as tightly as he dared for he dared no further. And although he did not look it seemed to him that the gentle nun did sob upon his breast.<br /><br />And so the night came on and there they stood until all was dark and silent, and the first moon rose.<br /><br />from The Kithariúne<br /><br /><br />(I do not make a habit of writing many Romantic scenes. Romance is deep within me, sure, but not typical for me. I find it much easier to write about and to relate to men. When I do write Romance I prefer to write after my own personal experiences [as I do with everything], and to do so in a Classical and Medieval Romantic style to that of modern “Romance,” which to me rarely is.<br /><br />Anyway this scene involves Marsippius Nicea, the Roman Commander of the Basilegate, and Luthemia, the Venetian nun, both long trapped upon Iÿarlðma with no way home. <br /><br />Marsippius laments that there is no way home to his wife, Luthemia laments that Marsippius is married – the only man she has ever fallen in love with, and they both laments that neither know if they will ever return home and so cannot decide further what to do. For Marsippius takes his duties and vows and love for his wife very, very seriously, and yet he too has come to love the nun. They weren’t supposed to be out until November.<br /><br />Anyway I walked into the shop and found the book, but the only \"Special Edition\" copy they had was the display copy. I took it anyway and asked one of the worker's there would they sell it to me. He said, \"Sure, I'll do that for you.\"<br /><br />I said, \"Then hide it behind the counter for me. I gotta whizz!\" I'd mostly been driving much of the day.<br /><br />He did and when I went to buy it he struck up a conversation about D&D which apparently he loves. <br /><br />The he said they were having a rally to teach people how to play. I laughed and said I used to play back in the 1970s. When I was a kid. He said, \"Well, then you could teach me.\"<br /><br />I said, \"I gotta be in Spartanburg at the time you mentioned and I mostly haven't played in a decade. I use the game for Real Life instead. But we'll see what we can do.\"<br /><br />Then I went on to a Trunk or Treat thing for the kiddies.<br /><br />However just from glancing through it - it should prove an immensely useful tool for story ideas and for Real Life… <br /><br />(The Conan story was particularly good, and the new DM Guide has several really useful ideas for both fiction and Real Life. So I'm enjoying both. And it's not even my Real Birthday yet so I guess I'll get Four this year. Lol.<br /><br />Well, that's it for me. I'm finally taking a day off.)",
