"content": "So, there's an odd phenom I realized I was suffering from today.<br /><br />I picked up Steven Wilson's new album on release but haven't so much as cracked the shrink wrap on it yet. Meanwhile, I've owned his previous release - The Harmony Codex - for a while and not really given it a concentrated listen either.<br /><br />Figured it was time to get caught up and then check out the new album while I was at it. In the process, caught myself in this mindset of \"this had better be AN EXPERIENCE (TM)\" and realized I'd bought into the mofo's hype. Granted, I don't know if he thinks this of himself, but there are a lot of SW fans who would sniff his socks to try to figure out what genius reeks of.<br /><br />Funny enough, when I caught myself doing this, I discarded that notion and put the album on as if I'd never heard of the guy before... And it was good. Actually, I might even say it was kind of great. Different, kind of electronic, but really scratching the itch the Porcupine Tree albums I loved did for me.<br /><br />And I know I'd played it before, so somehow this all flew right past me.<br /><br />I was watching the biopic on King Crimson and there's a bit where Robert Fripp talks about the weight of expectation - not just of audience towards performer, but of ourselves seeking to recreate out own past experiences. He made the point (in a roundabout way) that shutting that shit down and just listening is the way to return to the \"child state\" wherein this is all fresh and amazing and moving. We need to forget our experience and listen like it's the first time every time and that sensation is always available to us.<br /><br />Sounded good, but tonight might have been my first experience of that as an intentional practice. The stuff of chills, brothers and sisters... The stuff of chills. 🤯<br /><br />Also, I'm not diagnosed, but I'm fairly sure. 🤣",
