"content": "Truth is kind of an ambiguous term these days. That's what makes modern society so weak. People have fallen for the sales pitch that we can entirely recreate the world in our own image, that everything is open to interpretation, and thus nothing is certain or knowable. I think most of us know, at least subconsciously, that simply can't be the case. Our experience tells us there is an observable, comprehensible reality that exists, regardless of our whims or fancies (i.e. political ideologies, capital interests, personal opinions, etc.). This reality provides a foundation, a context for navigating the more ambiguous questions about life and the world. I think such a view of reality inspired people like the authors of the Declaration of Independence to premise their arguments on the concept that they found certain truths \"self-evident.\" Those people recognized that we are capable of comprehending truths about reality with enough certitude that we would be willing to live and die by them. That kind of intellectual independence can't be forged out of subjective mush and isn't easily defeated by rhetoric or propaganda. I posit that this take on reality is our forgotten strength. To that end, I encourage that we once again look for truth as something discoverable and knowable, that we speak about truth as something real, and that we live by the truths we discover as foregone conclusions (to the extent that we've ironed out their further implications). Yes, there's always more to understand, so don't be a thoughtless zealot, but not everything is a mystery all the time. We'll all stand together much better when we have something solid to stand on. ThinkFree.

(Maybe sounds a bit preachy, but you get the gist. This isn't exactly my day job.)

Book Recommendation: \"Relativism: Feet Firmly Planted in Mid-Air\" by Beckwith & Koukl. A good primer for clear thinking about Subjective vs. Objective principles. Easy read. Great examples of practical philosophical thinking. IMHO.

",
