The performance usually begins with the praise of Waaqaa 'God' & follows with appeal for peace/'nagaa'. The blessings are believed to bring good fortunes & protection- the people say the performance is inevitable to receive the good fortunes delivered from God. Oromo blessing expressions recurrently address universal human values. The most common issue articulated in the expressions include praise to Waaqaa, & aspiration for abundance of peace, protection, fertility, and prosperity. Several reasons can be listed for why the people are engaged in performance of eebba but especially the new season Birraa is symbolic & the people thank Waaqaa/God for the passage of the dark & rainy season. Every Oromo household says blessings, calling for peace in all aspects of their lives, for their own families to the community, along with prayers for fertility for themselves and for their means of livelihood and sustenance. Blessing is performed at various occasions and the issues addressed in the blessings are guided by the kind of ritual or gathering on which it is performed. Wedding is one of the occasions at which blessing is performed. The blessings are all addressed to the couple, & all the attendants of the ceremony.
#history #spirituality #blog #Oromo #videos ",
