There’s a place for me here! I am fully welcome here!

The Stillness Journal, September 30th 2022

This morning, I woke up early, 3:30 am, and couldn’t get back to sleep. I prayed and praised and rested in the presence of God. I thought a lot about the words to a new song and what I would pack for Bulgaria (Which is now only ONE week away!). But I couldn’t get back to sleep and my mind began to ping and zing all over the known universe – and then into the unknown. So, I began to focus on thanking God for HIM, for Jesus, for His beautiful presence and other things about Him. In the midst of that came an amazing thought, a concept, that I knew was special. (The Lord just said, “Because you are special.” Thank You, Abba Father) And I knew it was from the Lord. In fact, He said, “Yes, write this down.”
Since I started my stillness strolls with the Lord almost a year ago, I have to come to understand and experience the power of God’s creation. He has shown me so many things. Such as:
- Creation is full of His gifts to me, but often I must slow way down, stop and even wait before I can see them
- The Lord wants me to experience creation with all my senses. This opens my heart and mind to experiencing the presence of the Lord.
- The wonder and beauty of creation is a never-ending delight – just like Him.
- Interacting with creation has the power to heal.
But this morning, this beautiful thought bloomed like a flower in my mind; I belong to creation and it belongs to me. I BELONG there. There’s a place for me. There’s space for me. I fit there. I can be myself there. I am not judged there. There is no competition there. I can just breathe and be there. It is a true home for my heart. There is no shame there. I am completely welcome there. I am part of the full scope of creation, right along with the mountains, oceans, trees, bees, and even the rocks. I am part of the family of creation. I am not separate or outside of it. I am of it. And it is of me.
But, in this world, we humans have separated ourselves from creation. We have built our own creation, filled it with our things and we live there. We’ve done our best to create a place where we fit, where we belong within our made-by-human-hand edifices. But often they are woefully inadequate and we feel the pain of that. Many of us spend a lot of our energy, money and heart trying to figure this out.
But we don’t have to! God already figured it out for us! Creation is His magnificent gift that He gives to each one of us. He gives it to those that love Him, but also those that deny, ignore, blame and even hate Him. Every person can go into nature, God’s world, and experience what we all long for. We can find peace, balance, relief, and even hope. God designed it to be exactly this for us.
But, even better, we can discover and experience a deeper understanding and connection with our Lord. Our hearts can cry out, “Abba Father!” and we know that He hears us. Because we feel His presence all around us. The God of all creation is just more accessible in creation.
And that’s exactly how He planned it! He made this world and filled it everything we would ever need. And when it was all ready, He placed us in it. He put His goodness, care, love, power, glory, majesty, beauty, intelligence, creativity, joy and light into every part of creation so that we could easily see and know Him.
Throughout the long history of humanity, people spent most of their days outside of their houses. (Which were probably small and dark.) They regularly interacted with the natural world and received the restoration it gives. They encountered the light of the sun for many hours each day, felt the breeze, wind, rain, and snow regularly, and their hands were often in contact with the water, soil, or some growing thing. “Farm to Table” was a way of life for everyone!
But now, we’ve almost completely cut ourselves off from God’s world and live entirely in the world made by our hands. And what beautiful worlds we have made for ourselves! We’ve filled them with the loveliest things we can find. I’m no exception. You should see my blown glass collection. But it’s not just our homes. Our place of employment is often completely separated from creation as well.
There’s nothing wrong with having a nice house and all the things that go with it. And certainly, there’s nothing wrong with having a job! But for all the effort we put into creating our world to give us what we deeply desire, it doesn’t give us what creation does.
So, please, go out into God’s world that He made for you. Be still. Listen. Drink in peace. Cry out “Abba Father”! Because He is right there, next to you.
At this point, I imagine someone might be thinking, “You live in Denver, Colorado. You have the mountains in your backyard. I have NO nature around me.” I hear you. I felt the same way. The mountains are an hour drive away. It takes a lot of planning to get there and takes up half a day. That’s okay once in a while. But I wanted to encounter the Lord as I walked in creation as often as I could. I’d like to offer three ideas to connect with creation. They have all worked for me.
1. Most cities in the United States, and other countries as well, have beautiful parks that are open to all. Some of those parks will have areas that are more natural and wild. You will feel like you are deep in the forest. Or at least, in the forest! I have three or four places I love to go to. I didn’t know any of them existed before I began my stillness strolls. If you have access to the internet, simply search, “parks, green spaces, near me”. Then start exploring!
2. God designed all of creation for us, so what does that look like in your area? Are you in the flat lands, the rolling hills, the plains, the dessert, on the edge of a body of water? Go there. Stand still and drink in the moment. Listen. Relax. I think you will find that there is plenty in nature to encounter. One of my places is just a big, old empty field not too far away. But God has met me there, time after time. I have received revelations, blessings, lessons, and even deliverance from Him.
3. I hesitate a little on this last one because it is such a product of human hands. But God has met me there many times. And this is YouTube. If you search, “beautiful scenery with music” you will find dozens of videos that take you into the most beautiful places on the planet. Let yourself imagine that you are really there. Again, stop and listen. Ask the Lord if He has a message for you.
Creation is where you fit, where you belong and you are welcome there. But also, it’s where you can see and hear and feel the goodness of God. And God himself is there, so close.
So present. And He’s waiting for you.", "to": [ "https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Public" ], "cc": [ "https://www.minds.com/api/activitypub/users/1079490187186151427/followers" ], "tag": [], "url": "https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1422554458927140867", "published": "2022-09-30T12:03:32+00:00", "attachment": [ { "type": "Document", "url": "https://cdn.minds.com/fs/v1/thumbnail/1422554299698778124/xlarge/", "mediaType": "image/jpeg", "height": 955, "width": 1430 } ], "source": { "content": "I belong Here! So much.

It's very warm. The birds are chirping and singing. The Canadian geese are honking away. There's the softest little breeze. It's so gentle, softer than a breeze. It really should be called something else. There's green coming up everywhere, some trees have a lot of green on them already. And I've been singing to the Lord my new version of “In the Garden.” I'm standing in front of my gorgeous amazing Connie tree with her branches reaching straight up. They're reaching up to the sky, to the sun, to God. Even the branches that are bending down, their tips are doing their best to reach up. Reach up!

So, while I've been standing here, still so filled with anxiety and frustration, I've said to the Lord, “Do you want to say something to me?” And He, “Connie you've left the kingdom of love.” Oh, it is so true, I have!
