If you do not understand yourself than you will not understand others if you do not understand others you will not understand yourself. with true understanding comes liberation.<br />think of all the people who have wronged you, do you think that if any of them understood you as well as you understand yourself that any of them would have wanted to hurt you? likewise if you understood them as well would you wish harm on them? those who harm others do it out of ignorance not understanding. This is the essence of the phrase \"forgive them for they know not what they do\" or as I like to say \"those who do wrong do not understand the wrong they do but those who understand can do no wrong\"<br />it is not secret that the majority of violent criminals have had troubled childhoods which is the source of their criminal behavior. They were raised in broken homes without a proper family structure or were themselves abused. violence breeds more violence. <br />we also can not ignore the role genetics plays in violence. male animals on average are more aggressive than females due to testosterone but having higher levels of testosterone will not make you violent if you know how to properly harness it. like all power one must know how to control that power or they will be controlled by it. Not everyone with a troubled childhood will grow up to become criminals but most criminals have had a troubled past. The individual always has a choice on how they live their lives and are not completely victims of their upbringing. nontheless those who lack self awareness are more likely to become victims of their past than those who are self realized. one must \"know thyself\" to reach a state of liberation. those who live in darkness are blind to themselves and their actions and are deserving of forgiveness but that does not mean letting one get away with wrong doing.<br />If a tiger attacks your family you do not hold a grudge against the tiger nor do you sit back and allow such a thing to happen. you protect your family even if it means striking the tiger dead but you do not strike it out of anger or hate for you understand it is the beasts nature.<br />likewise if a killer attacks your family you do not strike out against the killer out of anger or hate but instead strike him for the sake of protecting your family.<br />if a warrior battles his enemy and strikes him down but continues to cary hate in his heart that hate will cause stress on the body and stress will kill you over time. it is as if when the warrior struck down his enemy his enemy also hit him with a poisened dart and although the enemy is dead the effect of the poison slowly works its way to the heart of the warrior killing him in time. it is as if the warrior has been killed in the end by the very enemy he struck down. to avoid the poisen sting of an enemy one must learn not to have anger and forgive even your enemy.<br /><br />avoiding anger and hate in the midst of battle is key to winning any battle. anger leads to mistakes, mistakes lead to death.<br />as the bhagavad gita states<br />Anger leads to clouding of judgment, which results in bewilderment of the memory. When the memory is bewildered, the intellect gets destroyed; and when the intellect is destroyed, one is ruined.<br />anger leads to loss of memery also in the sense that in the heat of anger you may forget yourself and do something you will later regret.<br />the bhagavad gita also states<br />There are three gates leading to the hell of self-destruction for the soul—lust, anger, and greed.
