"content": "I have been very busy these days with exams and work. Finally I'm back to share some interesting new content with you.<br /><br />Today I want to talk about penicillin.<br /><br />\"Nature makes penicillin; I just found it.\" Alexander Fleming<br /><br />Penicillin is the parent of the class of <a href=\"https://www.minds.com/search?f=top&t=all&q=antibiotics\" title=\"#antibiotics\" class=\"u-url hashtag\" target=\"_blank\">#antibiotics</a> called beta-lactams and nowadays it is also the most widely diffused.<br /><br />They work by interfering with the synthesis of peptidoglycan, an important component of the bacterial cell wall, and are mostly used against gram-positive bacteria because gram-negative bacteria have a lipopolysaccharide and protein layer that surrounds the peptidoglygan layer of the cell wall, preventing penicillin from attacking.
