"content": "THOUGHTS ON THE 2020 CENSUS.<br />The census collects information that supposedly helps characterize communities and regions. On the one hand, it asks benign questions regarding the number of people living in a household, ages, races. Then again, isn't this precisely the kind of information that can be used in gerrymandering? Take gender and sex. In today's social climate, can this accurately characterize the population any longer? If one can self-determine these characteristics, what are the implications for the government's use of these data to improve the community (personally, I think it runs the risk of making changes to benefit one at the expense of another - a zero-sum game).<br /><br />Has the census outgrown its usefulness (was it ever?), or is it more a matter of politicians' mastery of the methods in which the census can be manipulated for partisan gain? Is this now a matter of coerced invasion of privacy (though, I think the USG rarely penalizes non-participation)? I feel the only detail the government should concern itself with regarding household makeup, is how many people there intend to vote.<br /><br />Please jump in and provide your thoughts to round out a robust discussion. Am I looking at this the wrong way?<br /><br /><a href=\"https://www.minds.com/search?f=top&t=all&q=privacy\" title=\"#privacy\" class=\"u-url hashtag\" target=\"_blank\">#privacy</a> <a href=\"https://www.minds.com/search?f=top&t=all&q=government\" title=\"#government\" class=\"u-url hashtag\" target=\"_blank\">#government</a> <a href=\"https://www.minds.com/search?f=top&t=all&q=2020census\" title=\"#2020census\" class=\"u-url hashtag\" target=\"_blank\">#2020census</a> <a href=\"https://www.minds.com/search?f=top&t=all&q=gerrymandering\" title=\"#gerrymandering\" class=\"u-url hashtag\" target=\"_blank\">#gerrymandering</a> <a href=\"https://www.minds.com/search?f=top&t=all&q=libertarian\" title=\"#libertarian\" class=\"u-url hashtag\" target=\"_blank\">#libertarian</a>",

"content": "THOUGHTS ON THE 2020 CENSUS.\nThe census collects information that supposedly helps characterize communities and regions. On the one hand, it asks benign questions regarding the number of people living in a household, ages, races. Then again, isn't this precisely the kind of information that can be used in gerrymandering? Take gender and sex. In today's social climate, can this accurately characterize the population any longer? If one can self-determine these characteristics, what are the implications for the government's use of these data to improve the community (personally, I think it runs the risk of making changes to benefit one at the expense of another - a zero-sum game).\n\nHas the census outgrown its usefulness (was it ever?), or is it more a matter of politicians' mastery of the methods in which the census can be manipulated for partisan gain? Is this now a matter of coerced invasion of privacy (though, I think the USG rarely penalizes non-participation)? I feel the only detail the government should concern itself with regarding household makeup, is how many people there intend to vote.\n\nPlease jump in and provide your thoughts to round out a robust discussion. Am I looking at this the wrong way?\n\n#privacy #government #2020census #gerrymandering #libertarian",

Immediately after the movie, my dad and I decided to walk around the ol' Barnes and Noble. While we browsed their assortment of stuff and other items, I (unsurprised) spy this on a table of clearance items. For all the talk about the success of the CAPTAIN MARVEL movie, I found this little piece with a Marvel-ous discount. I realize there are many outlets that may have sold out or whatever, I just found it satisfying that B&N just couldn't move that merch.<br /><a href=\"https://www.minds.com/search?f=top&t=all&q=CAPTAINMARVEL\" title=\"#CAPTAINMARVEL\" class=\"u-url hashtag\" target=\"_blank\">#CAPTAINMARVEL</a> <a href=\"https://www.minds.com/search?f=top&t=all&q=overrated\" title=\"#overrated\" class=\"u-url hashtag\" target=\"_blank\">#overrated</a><br />",
