But I have heard this from independent sources as well, even those who have demonstrated at length both their knowledge of firearms and personal experience using them safely.<br /><br />I have never worked on a movie set, so I base my opinion on the knowledge provided by one who has, consistently, since the early 1980s, and often using firearms both of the actual variety and props. Imagine my surprise to find his information congruous to Wikipedia. Rather than paraphrase, I'll screenshot the entry, also to keep a record in the event the entry is \"updated.\" Although Wikipedia does well in it's definition of the term, it promptly demonstrates its fallibility by implying that Alec Baldwin fired a blank cartridge; a detail I have been unable to corroborate from any source at the time of this writing.<br /><br />I have been handling firearms since I was a young boy. \"Misfire\" has always meant one thing: the gun didn't fire right away when the trigger was pulled. Again Wikipedia surprises me with it's exactitude.<br /><br />Wikipedia claims the incident occurred before a take and the firearm was accidentally discharged while unholstering. I read other reports that it occurred between takes. These aren't \"misfires.\" The uninformed seem to believe that misfire = mistakenly fired. <br /><br />In either example the words are used and implications are drawn. But the implications differ starkly based on the knowledge and experience of the individual reading the story. And the result is two completely different interpretations. Am I to believe that experienced journalists are ignorant of these details and the framing they provide? Am I to believe a seasoned actor who has used firearms in roles for decades would receive a weapon and simply assume it to be safe?
