(Meme: <a href=\"http://techrights.org/2019/11/19/zdnet-fud/\" target=\"_blank\">http://techrights.org/2019/11/19/zdnet-fud/</a>, Article: <a href=\"https://www.zdnet.com/article/us-student-was-allegedly-building-a-custom-gentoo-linux-distro-for-isis/\" target=\"_blank\">https://www.zdnet.com/article/us-student-was-allegedly-building-a-custom-gentoo-linux-distro-for-isis/</a>)<br /><br />I know nothing about the history of the author of the post, and am familiar at least to some extent with the precedence of ZDNet, but I'd like to offer a take.<br /><br />Perhaps the meme is tongue-in-cheek, but my belief is that the meme itself is FUD, moreso than the ZDNet article to a degree.<br /><br />Although the ZDNet article is very poorly written, it's not obvious to me that it either implicitly or explicitly convinces the reader of the operating system of choice for any given terrorist organization. One has to imagine that at some point, someone in ISIS had at least entertained the idea of using Linux or some derivation of it for one reason or another, but would've done so long ago. My point here is this: would the reader be compelled to either associate or imply that Microsoft or Apple were complicit in terrorist activity if it emerged ISIS had used MacBook Pros or Surface Books to conduct their operations? Of course not. I took a look at the exam syllabus and followed up with some thoughts on recent chatter promoting the exam.
