When I go out in public or anywhere really, I always want to look presentable. I'm not talking about dressing up fancy or wearing make-up or that kind of thing, but making sure that what I'm wearing is clean, in decent shape, whatever. If I don't look right, about 99 percent of the time it's automatically assumed that it's because I'm blind and don't know any better, even though there are certainly other "non-disabled" people who go around looking scruffy and that's okay. The same thing goes for other things. For instance, I just found that for some crazy unknown reason I've had my Echo Show upside downb for several days now. I could have easily noticed that myself, but I didn't, so that's totally on me. But, if I'm in public and have a stained shirt, or if by some chance my fly just happens to be open, (not actually a personal experience I've had recently), most people won't say anything. I've had people in and out of this apartment helping me with stuff, but nobody has said anything about the Echo. So I'm wondering, do people not say anything out of fear of offending us or because they're just not observant, or something totally different? I'm not upset by this or anything, I'm just curious because it's something that's been on my mind recently. I've had people very nicely and discretely pull me aside to let me know things that I otherwise wouldn't have known and I appreciate it. I wouldn't be so appreciative if it was something that should have been private and wasn't, but most people have been good about it. I guess I just don't understand the human brain and why some things do or don't happen. I bashed my shin during my move and it was bleeding but I couldn't feel it dripping down. I walked around for hours before someone pointed it out to me that my sock was full of blood.
