I suppose it&#39;s a kind of Mary Shelley version of Tommy, with vignettes of things happening rather than bothering to tell a story.</p><p>It&#39;s not a bad idea; it just doesn&#39;t have any drive. Having a point would be a good start, I think. But to tell those days in Geneva in a bohemian, surreal way should produce an interesting movie, with an opportunity for satire.</p><p>Mary Shelley comes across quite meek, and Byron not particularly wild. You could have a lot of fun with the idea, sticking to some historical accuracy, but filling in the blanks with radical politics. But Russell seems to do neither. The way the characters are portrayed isn’t believable, and what they do isn&#39;t really all that interesting.</p><p>Coming from the director of The Devils, this film is very dreary.
