"name": "Abstract: In this paper, I respond to recent conversations in the learning sciences about how the field might develop research with generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). Rather than a narrow focus on what we might do with GenAI, I argue that learning scientists should expand our approaches to consider ways to research and learn about and against GenAI. While AI literacy is a common framework for helping people learn with and about artificial intelligence, a literacy framework can struggle to contend with AI’s opaque systems and is vulnerable to hegemonic influences. I suggest an alternative: mapping ecologies of GenAI and its social, technical, and political-economic relations. Finally, I argue that learning scientists can draw inspiration from the Luddites, 19th-century English clothworkers who destroyed machines to defend their craft and dignity, to develop a Luddite praxis that combines mapping ecologies of GenAI with collective interventions against unjust AI systems.",
