"content": "<p>One thing I want people to understand is that recent trans ban efforts are deeply patriarchal. It's not just that they're positioned as defending women, who would (the argument implies) be otherwise defenseless against trans people who just want to play sports, go to the restroom, and otherwise exist in public. It's also, at a more deeply transphobic level, a rear guard defense of male exceptionalism. Because if being a man is mutable—if it doesn't reduce to a set of sexual characteristics that are identifiable at birth—then the right to authority can't be innate to the male sex.
