"content": "<p><span class=\"h-card\" translate=\"no\"><a href=\"https://mastodon.social/@etcchatter\" class=\"u-url mention\">@<span>etcchatter</span></a></span> Speaking of mental walls, while 2 of those best friends have accepted me instantly and unequivocally, when I came out to the other best friend (who has a more traditional, conservative view of the world, and is still a somewhat begrudging fan of Tate and Trump), we had to let him think for a couple of hours about this.</p><p>It's not that he wouldn't accept me, it's just that his mental brick wall collapsed because he's seen me as a guy for 5 years of his life, and now I'm identifying as feminine / a woman, which combined with his previously-mentioned beliefs took him a while to process this.</p><p>What I'd recommend is a calm environment where you can carry an adult discussion about this, and I'd encourage you to have some backup, such as friends or science-based evidence to support your claims. If you have relatives that are similar to you (e.g trans), bring them over, see if that could help ease out this, because it's a somewhat tough pill to swallow when someone tells you they're trans.</p>",
