"content": "Canadians, when you question your electoral candidates for commitment to women’s rights, ask them if they have any intention of amending the Federal Elections Act to include the option of declining your ballot<br><br>Our GC fight is a long one. No existing party supports women’s sex-based rights. We need to enact changes in place now so that we can use them to voice our rejection at a future Federal election—hopefully 2025.<br><br>This option must be present even if by some miracle we get a proportional representation voting system. There’s no guarantee that any of your candidates in a new voting system will support women’s sex-based rights. You need a way for your voice to be heard.<br><br>Currently, Ontario, along with Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta are the only provinces that allow voters to decline their vote. No equivalent exists at the federal level.<br><br>When you disagree with all your candidates or the voting system, there’s a big difference between declining your ballot, spoiling your ballot, and not showing up at all. Elections Canada recognizes a spoiled ballot as an accident, and not showing up as voter apathy.<br><br>Showing up and declining your ballot is the only method Canada recognizes and records that the voter cares for Canadian politics but found the electoral system or candidates unacceptable. However, this is only offered at the provincial level in select provinces.<br><br>By denying you the option of declining your vote, the Federal elections are suppressing your voice. When you can’t in good conscience vote for any candidate or validate the system, your only option is to be marked an apathetic voter (failing to show up) or an incompetent voter that can’t follow simple instructions (spoiling the ballot). Neither of these two outcomes are taken seriously by the government.<br><br>Our Federal Elections Act must be amended.",
