The Equality Act seeks to provide long-overdue discrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. We’re alarmed, however, by the fact that — as currently written — the Equality Act would eliminate sex as a protected category under the law by redefining sex as an identity, not a biological reality. The Equality Act would undermine the current legal protections for female people who continue to experience discrimination and violence on the basis of sex in our society. This redefinition also erases the basis for same-sex attraction, undermining the very protections for sexual orientation that the bill claims to enshrine. <br> <br>That's why your Senators need to hear from you today. Our hope is that the Senate will take a closer look at this proposed legislation, hold hearings, and consider adopting the Feminist Amendments to the Equality Act. The Feminist Amendments would preserve sex-based protections while adding robust provisions in the law prohibiting discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and sex-stereotyping. <br> <br>Visit <a href=\"http://democracy.io\" rel=\"ugc\">democracy.io</a> -- which will generate a simple form you can use to contact your senators and representative.
