"content": "<p>whenever people tell me “ugh California is so expensive, I can get so much more for my money in [insert cheaper red-ish state]” I always look up that state’s labor laws. </p><p>one small example is California pay transparency: if you’re applying for a job, they have to tell you what the salary range is. </p><p>someone I know has been approached about a kinda lateral/maybe promo move within their organization in [insert a red state] and the recruiting manager won’t tell her what the new salary is. And the crazy part is *they don’t have to* under that state’s labor laws. </p><p>they want her to pick “based on what she wants to do, not the money.” the insanity of it! She isn’t volunteering for a fucking bakesale. This is her fucking livelihood. </p><p>so yeah. I’ll take my high cost of living, thank you. I get a lot more bang for my money here.</p>",
