Representing a growth of roughly 10% of the total user base.</p><p>We&#39;re really happy to have new folks here. However, we also wish to only grow slowly. Growing slowly is what made this place what it is. Being small and slow makes moderation workable and gets everyone used to one another. <span class=\"h-card\" translate=\"no\"><a href=\"https://post.lurk.org/@320x200\" class=\"u-url mention\">@<span>320x200</span></a></span> <span class=\"h-card\" translate=\"no\"><a href=\"https://post.lurk.org/@lidia_p\" class=\"u-url mention\">@<span>lidia_p</span></a></span> and me also need a slow pace to re-evaluate whether we have enough mods etc. </p><p>As such, we&#39;ve disabled invites for now. Registration applications are still open but we won&#39;t accept as many.</p><p>If you have friends that you desperately want to have try out the fediverse right now, please help them find another server. They will be able to follow you and everyone else on post.lurk.org. As part of that research I work together with actors in the cultural sector to co-design alternative social media infrastructures with/for them. This opens up a way of thinking about <a href=\"https://post.lurk.org/tags/degrowth\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>degrowth</span></a> and ICT. We should be looking in to that waaaay more. </p><p>The paper also tries to implicitly answer the &#39;how do we do sustainable web design?&#39; question and argues aiming for reduction (of bytes transferred, computation and infra required) as useful rule of thumbs guiding a design. That is to say, solar protocols, &#39;low tech look&#39;, 3.5MB dithered images, green CDNs etc ain&#39;t it.</p><p>However, it also self-criticizes solar.lowtechmagazine.com for the fact that it is so unreproducible and a very limited and &#39;easy&#39; use case.
