On this World Philosophy Day, we are asked to consider two powerful themes: ‘Philosophy for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future’ and ‘Bridging Social Gaps.’</p><p>Philosophy has always been the foundation of our search for meaning, ethics, and societal cohesion. <br />In today’s fast-evolving world, these questions become even more pressing. How do we build a future that is both inclusive and sustainable? And how do we address the deepening divides in society, where resources, opportunities, and access to knowledge are unevenly distributed?</p><p>From my perspective in cognitive science and studying philosophy of mind, the answer lies in understanding how our minds interpret fairness, empathy, and justice is central to answering these questions. Human cognition is not just about individual thought processes but is intricately linked to the social structures we navigate and deeply intertwined with social dynamics—our sense of community, belonging, and shared purpose.
