"content": "<p>Charlotte Edith Anderson Monture. 1890-1996 (Kanien’kehá:ka): Denied nurse training in Canada because she was Indigenous, Monture went to the United States and trained in Philadelphia and also served eighteen months in France in the US Army Nurse Corps during WWI. She was also the first Indian woman to vote in a Canadian federal election given her status as a wartime nurse (indigenous women couldn’t vote until 1960).
