We are following the western edge of an open stretch of ridge crest covered with grass and brownish gray rock formations. To our left several hundred feet below is a broad green valley with lots of forest and scattered clusters of houses and other buildings. The corner of a large lake is on the left not far away. On the far side of the valley a long traprock ridge runs along the horizon. The crest we are following runs along the right of the pic, the open rocks giving way to woods some distance ahead. Just to the left of that, miles away, we can just make out some of the taller buildings of the city of Hartford.",
