Swarms are more often associated with volcanic systems though, as magma moves. In a strike/slip fault system, you essentially have a deck of cards sliding past each other. </p><p>When a section locks up for a long time & then moves, stresses are transferred to other places in the fault system, and then some of them move. </p><p>The amount of energy being released over there is incredible</p>",
