"content": "<p>Realised that I have informally developed a rule for myself that I don’t typically reply to posts that have already received lots of boosts:</p><p>- High risk of saying the same thing as someone else whose comment you can’t see (or if you view the post on the originating instance, there may be a blizzard of replies and it’s hard to wade through them).</p><p>- Higher likelihood of encountering people from far away from my mutuals’ curated networks, thus higher risk of discussions going badly.</p><p>- Nearly every one of my mutuals who has had a highly-boosted (and commented-upon) post then posts that they are muting notifications from the original post. This means that if I had replied, I could well have contributed to that overburdening.</p><p>Decided I enjoy my Fedi small and cosy. That’s why I usually only follow back people I’ve really interacted with a few times. Also, it reminds me of my old Livejournal friends list, in that I can more or less read everything posted by the people I follow.</p>",
