"content": "<p>Has anyone involved in <a href=\"https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/feditips\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>feditips</span></a> ever heard of <a href=\"https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/NewsMast\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>NewsMast</span></a> [1] or <a href=\"https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/NewsMastFoundation\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>NewsMastFoundation</span></a>? I just got some email from them with a lot of buzzwords and an invitation to join because "people love your posts on Twitter, and the discussion they inspire" (lol!)</p><p>BUT, the email also mentioned my area of expertise, and was sent to my university email, which is not linked directly to my Twitter profile. And I do wonder if there's a certain kind of academic that could use a little more push to move away from Twitter. </p><p>NewsMast describes the platform as an ad-free, non-profit replacement for Twitter, which, I thought we already had. Guessing from the name, and looking at their FAQ, they are some kind of mastodon client, but they don't yet federate with any other servers.</p><p>I wrote email back (I know, against my better judgement) saying that I already have a mastodon account and they should federate with my home server to integrate my amazing content (and the actually good other content that is here).</p><p>So, did I get duped by some attention-seeking spam, or is NewsMast doing something that is actually useful?
