I've built my current team mostly outside of "seasoned" or "traditional" security people, through apprenticeship and other parts of the company. I've recommended that 3 folks in my team get their CISSPs. Why? Because it creates a common baseline of understanding and language for them to collaborate better together. Is it the end-all, be-all? No. Is the content super amazing technical wizardry? Oh no no no. Is it a way to show, both through the cert and the way you speak, that you have a common and well-rounded understanding of information security and IT compliance? YES!<br />And will it open doors for you? Yes. I really appreciate what <span class=\"h-card\" translate=\"no\"><a href=\"https://infosec.exchange/@jerry\" class=\"u-url mention\">@<span>jerry</span></a></span> said about it being a culture filter, but sometimes when a company is hiring security person 1 or 2, or new security leadership for a small team, they need something they can rely on, and I've found those companies can be really fun rides...</p>",
