"content": "<p>another few hundred miles on this wee beastie.. </p><p>slime tubes are awful and there's a reason every shop hates them</p><p>got a flat a few weeks ago and while doing a roadside repair noticed a ton of damage from just the tire carcass rubbing on the tubes, so for the same price as bargain tubes, cheap TPU seemed worth a shot. </p><p>i bought 425s by mistake, but was able to stuff them onto a 406 wheel and tire. it's been about a month and ~200 miles and they seem to be holding up fine. i <em>did</em> manage to pinchflat one while just installing it, so definitely be very ginger with them. </p><p>remains to be seen how they do long-term. so far so good. they feel a little different and ride a little different, maybe more flexible? i see more deformation at the same tire pressure, but also they seem to ride softer? </p><p>one thing i noticed in recent rides is that 20\" wheels are kind of a cheat code for not getting stuck. i rode around an extremely silty road that had multiple places with several-inch-deep wet sand. my 650b-wheeled bike with ATB tires absolutely ground to a halt on these same paths. </p><p>on 20\" wheels with entirely average BMX tires, i was able to power out and not have to put a foot down once. </p><p>[possibly bad science ahead]: small wheels are really limiting for top speed because your final drive is so much lower, but that also means you can get really low gearing and there's so much less rotational mass that getting up to speed or digging out of a hole is FAR easier. i'm not sure if cutting half a pound off each wheel helped, but it seems likely :blobcatgooglyshrug: </p><p>the comparatively huge handlebars also mean you get a lot of leverage and with a light grip you just let the wheel go where it wants and pretty much always end up OK.</p><p>anyway, i'm having a good time and being weird is awesome</p>",
