That is important.</p><p>By focusing on Mastodon as the end all be all, you focus power in Eugene and his app. </p><p>Yes, the regular common user doesnt need to understand apps or protocols or such. But those that do should focus on the apps that provide needed features. </p><p>The OP expressed that they were frustrated with Mastodon both as an app and as an organization of devs. So I told them they it would be better to focus on apps and devs that were more responsive to their push requests and feature needs.</p><p>You came in and changed the conversation to the needs of non-technical users. While a valid conversation, it was not the one we were having. For your conversation, I would say that Yes, those needs are valid and we should be responsive to them, so we should again focus on creating apps that meet those needs.</p><p>We do that by decentering Mastodon as synonymous to the Fediverse. We do that by offering other apps that are responsive to community and user needs for safety features.</p><p>I do understand social media. As a user, as one who understands code and open source projects, as one who understands closed source and commercial projects, as a community organizer who understands the needs of folks who arent steeped in tech, as a content creator, and even as a person who is willing to be corrected and provided with a better understanding of all of these.</p><p>So.
