And I was stunned by his story about the garment &#39;bikini&#39;, which was named after Bikini Atoll (native Pikini). He told us this story that &#39;bikini&#39; was born out of the goal of Réard to create a swimwear that would create a &quot;bombshell&quot; effect similar to that of the atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll. Réard (the dsigner) hoped that the design would cause a cultural explosion in fashion, much like the literal explosion that took place at the atoll, and indeed, the bikini did make a significant impact. </p><p>My colleague said there was even a &quot;funny&quot; story that was going around the fashion industry then. They said that after the bombing of Bikini Atoll, all the women lost their clothes except four small fabrics in the shape of triangles. This of course wasn&#39;t funny to the people of Aolepān Aorōkin Ṃajeḷ.</p><p>I have never thought of that prior to my visit in Hawaii.
