"content": "<p>This is a great article on a study on cognition and the human brain [1]. The authors argue that the brain uses 20% of the human body's total energy. Much of this energy is not used for conscious attention but rather for unconscious "prediction" of the future and possible actions. This automated "prediction module" is one of the most interesting aspects of the human brain because it functions autonomously, outside of our conscious attention or willful influence. Very little is known about this "black box" in our heads that we use and rely on daily for so many tasks. I always find this fascinating. Understanding this module may be key to combating misinformation, manipulation, and fake news in the future.</p><p>[1]: <a href=\"https://www.quantamagazine.org/how-much-energy-does-it-take-to-think-20250604/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" translate=\"no\"><span class=\"invisible\">https://www.</span><span class=\"ellipsis\">quantamagazine.org/how-much-en</span><span class=\"invisible\">ergy-does-it-take-to-think-20250604/</span></a> </p><p><a href=\"https://himself.alexanderdunkel.com/tags/brain\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>brain</span></a> <a href=\"https://himself.alexanderdunkel.com/tags/cognition\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>cognition</span></a> <a href=\"https://himself.alexanderdunkel.com/tags/science\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>science</span></a> <a href=\"https://himself.alexanderdunkel.com/tags/perception\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>perception</span></a> <a href=\"https://himself.alexanderdunkel.com/tags/energy\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>energy</span></a></p>",
