Cops shouldn't be killing people EVEN if they're suspects in a crime or resisting arrest or being annoying shitheads. Even in a barbaric nation that still has the death penalty. When cops are murdering citizens on the streets they are literally fascist death squads executing citizens on a whim. Human rights are for everyone and they're only human rights if they apply to everyone, otherwise they're privileges not rights. This is true even for people we don't like or who aren't very nice.</p>",

"content": "<p>I'm, once again, incredibly grateful for the journalists out there who are doing the hard work of giving a voice to the powerless and challenging the powerful. I am also grateful for the independent publications out there that cover the real issues of our day, such as climate change, human rights, environmental justice and the dismantling of democracy and that break these stories that would otherwise go un or misreported so the MSM eventually has to cover them—whether we are talking about another murder by police, old growth logging, MMIW or any of the many, many stories that the MSM only covers because of public and journalistic activism.</p><p>I don't believe that there is a "neutral" way to discuss these things and it's insane to think that politeness and being emotionless means neutral, it may just mean you're a sociopath (and is actually a common tactic of manipulation used by the privileged and clinical narcissists to bait people into responding...faux reasonableness is a tactic of abuse and there's nothing neutral about it). </p><p>Give me journalists passionate about what they write about, who care enough to dig really deep to find the truth. Give me journalists who are activists ready to defend democracy as we face fascism and to lose access to the WH, who will confront the police unions that protect murderous police and who don't rely upon copaganda, give me journalists who stand up for transpeople's rights rather than giving cover for the worst kind of men using women to justify their own transphobia. Just give me journalists who care about the world.</p>",

When people WANT to believe something as a way to avoid an unpleasant reality it's even harder but, particularly with public health, it's about hooking into the prosocial (it's not surprising that the antimaskers are often just more antisocial people in general*, a bit like the requisite older middle aged White man who will feel compelled to go to climate marches just to mansplain to women that climate change isn't real...and, yes, speaking from lived experience here).</p><p>*ironically even though they're often pretty antisocial people part of what they find in antivaxx groups is social, though it's just as much or more about getting attention for themselves as individuals than it is about anything collective, which is why they usually turn on themselves if they get any power.</p>"
