"content": "<p>I'm still a bit depressed about the chapter in Yesterday's Weekly Portion of the <a href=\"https://c.im/tags/Parshah\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>Parshah</span></a> discussing the event traditionally called The Medianite War. </p><p>At face value, just reading the description in <a href=\"https://c.im/tags/Scripture\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>Scripture</span></a>, it seems there no actual fighting on the Medinite side. It was a plain massacre. </p><p>Further reading seems to indicate that the fighters, especially the low-rank army commanders, felt guilt about their part in this atrocity and offered the choice part of their loot (the ladies' jewelry) to the Holy Sanctuary's Treasury.</p><p>However, at a casual glance at the Classical Commentators of this chapter I noticed none of them sharing this interpretation. They offer other explanations for the Atonement offer.
