"content": "<p><span class=\"h-card\" translate=\"no\"><a href=\"https://mstdn.ca/@gemelliz\" class=\"u-url mention\">@<span>gemelliz</span></a></span> <br />Here's a thought.<br />If we had enforced regulations with severe financial penalties or even prison terms for those CEOs/owners who do not comply, so that retirement homes and long term care homes had to have more than one PSW per 45-50 residents that might reduce the load on the emergency rooms and the financial burden on taxpayers.<br />One example of why this is needed: You have people who need assistance getting to the bathroom who end up lying in soiled bedding more than half the night, that isn't good for your health. Or they can't wait and try to get to the bathroom on their own, fall and break bones or hit their head on the way down because there is only one person per 100 on the night shift to help. (I can't imagine the disaster if a fire broke out. People with limited mobility would die)<br />Keep in mind, PSW's duties also include, bathing and showering, dressing, and feeding residents. People sometimes do not eat a meal, or are unclean and this adds to ill health and eventually a trip to the ER.<br />Additionally, more than one nurse per 90-100 residents is needed when they are responsible for keeping track of and giving out meds each mealtime and having to monitor vital stats, and check on the condition of the chronically ill.<br />And as Boomers age and their families don't have time to give them the support they need and dump them into facilities, this problem will worsen.<br /><a href=\"https://beige.party/tags/DougFord\" class=\"mention hashtag\" rel=\"tag\">#<span>DougFord</span></a> as usual isn't taking his responsibilities seriously as premier of Ontario. But look!
